The $6.50 sushi bar lunch special is from 11 am to 3 pm and comes with miso soup, house salad, and a variety of sushi choices. I'll try this another day.
The food presentation, speed of service, and restaurant design were all excellent and very appealing. I spoke some poor quality Chinese to my server, and she was delighted to hear someone in this small town speak her native tongue, even with my poor dialect, haha.
Only gave one star because it doesnt let u give zero!! Food was awful, customer service very poor. Server was rude and spent more time on the phone than taking care of us. I had the teriyaki chicken box and the chicken tasted like microwave rubber. Will never eat here again! Save yourself time and money DONT GO THERE!!!!
I sat in the main dining area, as it seemed there are 3 areas to eat here. The sushi bar, the main dining area, and a large more private area for large groups and parties. Everything was new and very clean looking.
The Miso soup was mostly dashi fish stock soup with cubed silken tofu and wakame seaweed leafs, and very little if any onions, or asparagus. The soup was a correct temperature and tasted OK, but nothing I would want a 2nd bowl of. Again, more just my personal preference on the soup. The fried chips tasted okay, as expected.
I was greeted and seated as soon as I walked inside. After talking to a few of the employees over the course of my time there, I learned that earlier that evening they had a 1 hour wait for a table, and things were running way behind in the kitchen due to the overwhelming amount of customers.
It consisted of grilled teriyaki chicken, fried brown rice, 4 California sushi rolls, a veggie egg roll, and a crab and cheese rangoon, although the menu says 2 dumplings, I think the rangoon and veggie roll were substituted, perhaps due to their super busy night and running out, ha. A dab of wasabi and razor thin cut slices of pink ginger root for an extra flavor kick were also on my very attractive looking deep box plate.
The crab meat appetizer was sizzling hot and still slightly bubbling when it arrived on the flat skillet. I was able to eat the meat from the top while the bottom slightly charred the meat as it cooled down. It had a very good flavor to it, although the cheese on top looked melted and strung across the plate, it still looked and tasted good. I did like this dish.
Next was the main course; the approximate 4 inch deep box meal plate arrived looking very tasty. The chicken teriyaki tasted pretty good, some of the pieces seemed a little dry with grill marks on them, and others were more moist and tender. More teriyaki sauce would have been nice. But overall the chicken teriyaki was very good.
I arrived past the normal dinner hour on grand opening night, by then the tables had mostly emptied and only a few people were still eating. The sushi bar had octopus, tuna, yellow tail, and a nice variety of other sashimi and fresh looking items to choose from, while the sushi chef prepared dishes in front of you.
I love chopsticks! All of their food is amazing and I am so happy that such wonderful sushi can be found right here in shelbyville. The staff is so friendly as well.
Now to the taste of the food! From the start; the salad was mostly just lettuce, a tiny bit of carrot julienne cut and topped with thick Chinese ginger and orange dressing, that was OK tasting, but just not my type of personal flavor.
Good food, supper nice people work there.
My server was Chinese and I asked her recommendations as what was good for an appetizer and main course. Their elegant menu is very extensive with about 200 food items to choose from, along with a nice wine, beer and sake list.
Always a wonderful sushi experience here at Chopsticks! Tonight we even got to enjoy the chef's beautiful artwork along with his creative cuisine! Bravo!
This place is amazing looking on the inside, especially since I was here before the complete remodel. So I know they did tons of work getting it ready. It looks like an upscale big city restaurant one might find in a 4 star hotel.
My server was quick to bring my drink, and follow up with me to get my order. I started with the cheese crab meat kitchen appetizer, and for my main meal I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box dinner. It had a nice combo of items in it, including miso soup, house salad, and rangoon chips which were all brought out first to me.
Then a large portion of my crab meat appetizer, still sizzling on the hot skillet, was brought to me just after finishing my soup and salad. When almost finished with the crab meat appetizer my main meal arrived.
